Urban Textures

The brief is to propose a urban plan for a university for 20,000 that would be located in the historic park of Vincennes in Paris. Initiated by a in-person in-depth site analysis, both the site itself and surrounding city walls were taken into context, in order to see how such a large scale project would impact the local population. 5 different typologies were extracted and studied, all with interpersonal relationships that benefit each other.

What this project proposes is a more efficient arrangement of the park, with the forest being moved to the centre, creating a city strip along the entire border. This arrangement locks the park inside from further development of the city, preserving this green lung. The university and its accommodation takes a meritocratic approach that rewards progression and hard work. As one progresses through the school, the sq.m of learning space (and personal space) to student ratio increases. This reflects itself onto the preexisting typologies and is placed around the borders of a new more efficient park. This new park retains the same area of dense forest in the center and becomes the home of a little society that rewards its inhabitants and compliments the neighboring Paris.
